ObituaryBeloved and faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary M. Walker, 82, of Shell Point Village passed away on May 25, 2004. She was born March 3, 1922 in Yakima, WA, the daughter of the late J. Frank and Edythe (Kelsey) Hamilton. She attended Whitworth College, Spokane, WA and married Rogers E. Walker on June 14, 1942. A consummate adventurer, she moved with her husband and family to Alaska in 1958 where she began her career as a tax auditor for the IRS. In the mid-sixties they relocated to the Washington, DC area and in 1969 she began working in foreign countries during tax seasons. She expanded those opportunities by touring neighboring countries with Rogers once her work was completed. She and Rogers have been residents of Shell Point Retirement Community since 1985. A devote Christian with an active personal program, she dedicated the past 19 years to welcoming Shell Point newcomers through the Ambassadors efforts, encouraging others in their times of crisis and helping on special occasions. She was involved in Christian Women's Club and in the church choir and vespers music. She distributed Gideon Auxiliary New Testaments at every opportunity. She participated in the Stamp Ministry preparing used stamps for sale to support mission activities. She recently undertook leadership in The Village Church's tract supply program. She was known for her diligent organizational skills and ability to bring together friends and neighbors. When no longer able to travel, she kept her family close through frequent phone calls, letters and cards. She made certain that all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were remembered and aware of the important place they each held in her heart. Her survivors include her lifelong friend, companion and husband, Rogers E. Walker, four children, Rogers F. and wife Jean Walker of Lakewood WA, Stephen and wife Michelle Walker of Fairbanks AK, Miriam and husband Jack Infinger of Alameda CA, and Marge and husband Jack Brandt of Fremont CA; nine grandchildren, Jerry Walker, Joel Walker, Janna Klee, Lyric Botulinski, Matt Walker, Savannah Kinsey, Jonathan Bechtle, Jeremy Brandt and Jason Brandt; and nine great grandchildren, Becky and Caleb Walker, Cheyenne, Tommy and Griffin Botulinski, Chance and Brittany Kinsey, and Elizabeth and Emma Bechtle. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother J. Franklin Hamilton, Jr. and great granddaughter Destinee Kinsey. A memorial service honoring and celebrating the life of our much-loved wife, mother and friend will be held at The Village Church, Shell Point Retirement Community, on Saturday, May 29 at 3 PM. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of a contribution to Gideons Memorial Bibles, PO Box 08336, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
