Mary Louise Pattison, 65 AUGUSTA -- Mary Louise Pattison, 65, passed away at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta on Dec. 25, 2011 after a long struggle with cancer. Born into a military family, (Air Force), Mary Lou was the eldest of three children and spent her early years living primarily in the southwestern United States and Puerto Rico before arriving in Bangor in the early 1960s. She earned a BA in Sociology from the University of Maine at Orono in 1968 and began a life-long career as a State of Maine employee, first as a social worker in Bangor working in family adoptions and then as a Financial Manager in the Department of Human Services in Augusta, before retiring in 2004. Mary Lou loved her family, career, and friends. She enjoyed travel to many countries, particularly liking the Greek isles and Spain. She also liked movies, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, knitting, and was an avid reader. Mary Lou was a volunteer at the Lithgow Library in Augusta and served as treasurer of her condominium association. After retiring she learned to play bridge and made many friends at the Cohen Center in Augusta. Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents, John D. Pattison and Eileen M. Pattison (Consedine). She is survived by two sisters, Ann P. Bouchard and her husband, Dennis, of West Hills, Calif., and Ellen J. Krumpholz and her husband, Gary, of Groton, Mass; a niece, Lisa Peterson and her husband, Aaron, of Sunland, Calif. and a nephew, Brian Bouchard and his wife, Toni, of Simi Valley, Calif.; three great- nieces and three great-nephews. The family wishes to thank her friends and neighbors who lovingly cared for her during these many months. They also wish to thank the entire staff of doctors, nurses, and care managers at MaineGeneral Medical Center for their care and compassion. Services will be private, and at a later date, her ashes will be put to sea in Camden.
