->Goodwin, Mary Louise (Hamzik)Johnson City: Mary Louise (Hamzik) Goodwin died on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the James J. Johnston Nursing Home in Johnson City, NY at 96 years of age. She was the daughter of Michel Hamzik and Anna Macko who came to the United States at the turn of the 20th century from Austria and Slovakia. They homesteaded in the northeast region of Montana where they had 8 children and then resettled in Binghamton, NY. Mary is predeceased by her parents, her siblings Joseph Hamzik, George Hamzik, Margaret Zack, Anna Martin, and Alvina Stolarczyk. Her husband, Joseph John Goodwin, died in 1957 and as a young widow of 42, she raised her two teenage daughters and provided and supported them through their college years and beyond. Mary is the mother of Barbara L. (Goodwin) Van Nortwick of Cape Cod and Florida and Marlene M. (Goodwin) Leinster of South Carolina. The grandmother of Kimberly Rossman of Castleton-on-Hudson, NY, Craig Van Nortwick of Bradenton, FL, Raea Leinster of Washington D. C., and Christopher Leinster of Denver, CO. She is the great grandmother of Abbi Rossman, Troy, Zachary, and Claire Van Nortwick, and Zeke Leinster. She is also survived by her youngest brother, John Hamzik and many loving nieces and nephews. Mary has held the title of the longest lived female in her family for many years. Her stamina, strength, fortitude, work ethic, gracious demeanor, and reservoir of good sense were an example for her children and all who knew her. She has been a guiding force and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.Funeral Services will be held at Barber Memorial Home 428 Main Street Johnson City on Sat. at 10 a.m. Rev. Christine J. Day, Rector will officiate. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell. The family will receive friends at the Barber Memorial Home on Sat. from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service. All who would like to remember her are welcomed to join the family in honoring her presence in their lives.
