HAMILTON - Mary Jane Elizabeth McHugh (nee King) passed away into God's hands, at home, on Thursday evening, Feb. 21, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She had, only weeks ago, celebrated her milestone 70th birthday. Born in Trenton, and a lifelong area resident, Mrs. McHugh was employed in many secretarial occupations during her working career while skillfully juggling fulltime responsibilities as home keeper, wife and mother. Her most memorable job was at the Legal Aide Society offices where friends and colleagues were one in the same. Mary Jane was a creative wonder who loved all things unique. Her artistic delight in painting and originative writing was equally balanced by a deep love of nature and animals, especially wolves and birds of all types. Native American culture was a lifelong inspiration through their values of tranquility, peace, and harmony. Traveling was a particular passion leading to family trips across all 50 states in the USA, and later, across oceans to England and Japan. Forming a dynamic duo with her mother Mary King who passed in 2008, their journeys trekked from rafting Grand Canyon's whitewater rapids to dog sledding in Alaska, and from whale watching aboard the Fuji Blimp to competing in Yukon Territory's Great Outhouse Race (for which her symbolic "Yukon Do It" philosophy proved that dreams can come true with determination and perseverance).Mary Jane was predeceased by her parents Mary E. and James M. King, her sister, Patricia Valentino, her brother-in-law, Nelson Gray, and nephews, James King and Robert Valentino.She is survived by her devoted husband, John H. McHugh, with whom she had been glowingly anticipating their 50th wedding anniversary in April of this year, their son, John L. McHugh, with whom Mary Jane shared countless flying adventures, her sisters Teresa Gray and Meg King, both as unrelenting caregivers, her brother, John King, her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Eileen King and family, her brother-in-law, Bob Valentino and family, her sister-in-law, Carole and Steve Siskind and family, her sister-in-law, Sharon and Bob Dunn and family, her godchildren, Amy and Jason Hayes, Patrick King and Ashley Valentino, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close aquaintances.Appreciation is greatly extended to her many dear friends at the American Legion Post No. 31 for their constant support with letters, cards and gifts during Mary Jane's ongoing illness. She also will be missed by fellow mystical adventurer and soul-collaborator Diane Koehler, and, too, by the countless animals she has saved, sheltered, raised and loved. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Church, 626 S. Olden Ave., Hamilton. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1200 Cedar Lane, Hamilton.
