Mary Gladys Coker Davis, age 100, of Shalimar, Fla., and formerly of Avondale Estates, Ga., passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010.She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Davis. She is survived by a son, Robert E. Davis and daughter-in-law Theresa R. Davis of Buford; daughter, Marijo Davis Strauss and son-in-law Robert L. Strauss of Shalimar; four grandchildren, Sandra Davis Glaze and her husband Richard E. Glaze Jr. of Lawrenceville, Ga., Donna Davis Kendall and her husband James A. Kendall of Cary, N.C., Robert L. Strauss Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Strauss of Atlanta, and Dr. Arthur J. Strauss and his wife Dr. Gina E. Strauss of Fairbanks, Alaska; nine great-grandchildren, Robert N. Glaze, Andrew E. Glaze, John M. Glaze, Nicole T. Glaze, Courtney L. Kendall, Alexander D. Kendall, Jacob E. Kendall, Marissa A. Strauss and Emil G. Strauss; niece, Beverly Ann Steele Jones of Suwanee, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Gladys Davis was born on July 28, 1909, on Main Street in Stone Mountain, Ga., to Elisha T. Coker and Mary Josephine Smith Coker. She was the youngest of four brothers and four sisters. She attended Girls High School in Atlanta. Mary Gladys Davis was wed to Robert H. Davis on Jan. 22, 1928. They lived in Miami and various parts of Atlanta, primarily in the City of Avondale Estates. She was a devoted wife and mother, raising children, taking care of various family members who came to live with them, and shelling pecans at the kitchen table when her husband started the Atlanta Pecan Co. in 1951. Mary Gladys Davis was one of the original members of the Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church in Avondale Estates.At the time of her death Mary Gladys Davis resided at The Manor at Bluewater Bay, Niceville, Fla., but lived with her daughter, Marijo and son-in-law Bob in Shalimar for the previous seven years.Funeral services and interment will be held on Monday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with Pastor Dr. Dave Allen Grady officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shalimar United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1 Old Ferry Road, Shalimar, FL 32579, in memory of Mrs. Mary Gladys Coker Davis.Arrangements by Junior E.
