OLEAN - Mary Ellen "Fish" Barrett, 66, of 134 N. Seventh St., passed away Tuesday (Nov. 11, 2014) at Olean General Hospital after a lengthy illness.Born May 10, 1948, in Olean, she was the daughter of Clifford and Mary Catherine Simmons Fisher. She was first married to Thomas Frederick Burlingame Jr. on July 27, 1968. On Sept. 5, 1998, in Olean, she married Daniel Barrett, who survives.Mrs. Barrett was a graduate of the Olean High School Class of 1966, and worked at the former Bradner's Department Store, Cole's Interiors, Community Action and Campbell (Griffith) Oil. She later retired as Olean deputy city clerk.She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and served as a Stephen Minister. Mrs. Barrett enjoyed swimming, roller skating, square dancing, gardening, traveling with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she is survived by her former husband and friend, Fred; four children, Craig (Mindy) Burlingame of Buffalo, Laura (Mark Thompson) Burlingame of Olean, Corey Barrett of Richmond, Va., and Corinia (Patrick) McDonough of Wausau, Wis.; six grandchildren, Thomas, Riley, Conner, Owen, Avary "Ava" and Victoria; a sister, Silvia (Bill) Scheminger of Olean; a brother, Clifford "Kip" (Karen) Fisher of Walworth; three brothers-in-law, Pat (Sue) Barrett, Mike (Nancy) Barrett and Roy (Debbie) Burlingame; two sisters-in-law, Marlene (Bill) Stephens and Jean (David) Spence; a goddaughter, Lisa (Kier) Dirlam; and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by a sister, Janet Aaron; a beloved former mother-in-law, Luella Evans Stark; her longtime friend, Cheryl Peters; and a brother-in-law, Randy Barrett.Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road. Funeral services will be held Saturday (Nov. 15, 2014), beginning with a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home and followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary of the Angels Church. The Rev. David Tourville will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
