Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Rogan, 96, Walla Walla, Wash., passed away Thursday, June 26, 2007, at Garrison Creek Lodge. Mrs. Rogan was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour, and the Jackson County Guild. She enjoyed her role as a homemaker and was involved in many church and charitable organizations. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed flowers, birds and all of nature. She was a booster for the Republican Party and served on the Red Cross and Girl Scout boards. She moved to the Walla Walla area in 2002, after residing in Seymour for 30 years. Born Oct. 15, 1910, in Antwerp, Ohio, she was a daughter of Albert Carl and Nellie Mae Paulson Hirzel, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 2, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, she married Martin P. Rogan, who preceded her in death in Seymour in 1995. Survivors include three sons, Tim Rogan, Walla Walla, Wash., Thad Rogan, Nashville, and Mike Rogan, Naperville, Ill.; four sisters, Ellen Hirzel, Adrian, Mich., Caroleen Johnson, and Jody Trudeau, both of Oregon, Ohio, and Nellie McDonald, Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Hirzel, and a sister, Isabelle Sheehan. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour. Inurnment will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Local arrangements are being handled by Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour.
