Obituary of Mary-E. Burke


Mary E. Burke Brockton Mary E. Burke, 96 years, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007. Born and raised in Brockton, she was a daughter of the late William and Nellie (Horrigan) Burke. She was a graduate of Brockton High School, Bridgewater State College and attended Boston University. Mary had been a teacher for 16 years in Stoughton and 25 years in Brockton. She was a former member of the National Retired Teachers Association, the Brockton Garden Club, a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She enjoyed oil painting, gardening, teaching and biking. She was an avid reader, and for many years, was a summer resident of Dennisport. She is survived by one sister, Grace N. Long; three nieces, Marie G. Long, Patricia A. Jeannette and her husband Paul, Barbara J. Gillespie and her husband James; a great-niece, Allison M. Jeannette and great-nephew, Adam P. Jeannette. She was the sister of the late William J. Burke and J. Theresa ONeil. Visitation in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Wednesday 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 11 a.m. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
