Mary Chapman Cotter, 88, of Inverness, died Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at 1 p.m. from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with interment following at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Inverness.Mary was born in Portland, Maine, on September 26, 1921, to Albert A. and Edith B. Chapman. She came to Inverness in 1986 from Cobleskill, N.Y. She was a graduate of the University of Maine receiving a B.S. and a M.S. in Education from SUNY at Oneonta, N.Y. She conducted a private nursery school for ten years in Gouverneur, N.Y., and taught at Richmondville, N.Y. Central School for nineteen years. Mary was a parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where she belonged to Helping Hands and the Catholic Women's Club. She also was a member of The Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does, Drove 232. She was a former member of American Association of University Women.She is survived by: George T. (Carol) Cotter, Jr., Wallingford, CT; John A. (Wendy) Cotter, Bloomington, MN; Richard R.G. (Victoria) Cotter, Bucklands Beach, New Zealand; and William J. (Lisa) Cotter, San Antonio, Texas; and her daughter, Judith (Michael) Podhorez, Maricopa, AZ, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on May 18, 1998. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to the Florida Center for the Blind, 7651 S.W. Highway 200, Suite 502, Ocala, FL. 34476. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
