PERRYSBURG, Ohio- Martha M. Williams, 86, of Perrysburg, Ohio and formerly of Aiken, S.C. died Wednesday, February 25, 2004 in her daughter's home. She was born in Sumter, S.C. on March 10, 1917 to Wiley and Rosa (Melton) McKain and was married on November 26, 1946 in Columbia, S.C. to The Honorable John Henry Williams, former South Carolina Senator and Member of the House, who preceded her in death on January 8, 1991. Martha received her Bachelor Degree of Science from the University of Tennessee and later received her Masters Degree in Nutrition from Peabody College. She worked during the latter years of WWII as a nutritionist at the Pentagon, and later taught science and home economics in high schools in Columbia, Graniteville and Aiken, S.C. Martha instituted the first school lunch program for the state of South Carolina. She was a member of the First Baptist church in Aiken, served as a past president of the Aiken American Legion Auxiliary, the Gard en Makers Garden Club, and the West Low Country District Garden Council for the State of South Carolina. She was also a life member of the Garden Club Council and was a charter member of the Board of Directors of Aiken Technical College. She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra 'Sandra' (William W.) Mehlow of Perrysburg, Ohio; son, John W. 'Bubba' Williams of Perrysburg, Ohio; granddaughter, Tina M. (Parry) Rentz, great-granddaughter, Taylore Nicole Saunders, many loving nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 12, noon on Saturday, March 6, 2004 in the First Baptist Church, 120 Chesterfield St. N.E., Aiken, S.C. with Pastor Fred Andrea officiating. Burial will be private in Bethany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be in the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3157, Aiken, S.C. 29802 or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, Ohio 43551.
