MorrisonLouise Kiger Humphreys Morrison passed away at Clare Bridge Assisted Living Facility in Tallahassee, Florida, on February 2, 2013. She was 97. Louise had lived in Tallahassee for 13 months. Prior, she had lived in the Ft. Myers/Cape Coral, Florida, area for 43 years. Louise was born November 11, 1915 in Huntington, West Virginia, to Leonidas Walter Humphreys, M.D., who died in 1942, and Musa Ferne Kiger Humphreys, who died in 1961.She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Marshall College in Huntington in 1933 and attended graduate school at Columbia University in New York City in 1934-35. She taught school in Milton, West Virginia, where she met her future husband, Theron Vasco (TV) Morrison. They were married in 1940. Her son, Paul Frederick, was born in 1943.During World War II she worked in the General Chemical TNT plant in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, from 1943-45. In 1945 she and her family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where TV taught high school chemistry and math. Her daughter, Vicki Lorraine, was born in 1952. During the 1950s, she was president of the Guy Lombardo fan club.She also attended commercial illustrator school. In the 1960s, she worked for the Detroit School Board evening school program. Also in the 1960s, she and TV became interested in genealogy and conducted extensive research on many ancestral lines. Louise and TV retired to Cape Coral, Florida, in 1969, and continued their genealogy research. Their published findings of the Bodkin, Cavet, Ellis, Fowler, Harlan, Hefner, Hevener, Humphreys, Hurst, Jordan, Kiger, Lawrence, Lorimer, Morrison, Popham, Wilie, and Winkley ancestral lines are available in the Library of Congress. During the 1970s and 80s, Louise was active in the Lee County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and held several offices. She and TV also were active in the Cape Coral Power Squadron and attended many social functions.Louise was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and completed untold embroidery, crochet, and cross-stich projects. She kept her home spotless.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1996. She is survived by Paul Frederick Morrison (Sandy) of Bethesda, Maryland, and Vicki Lorraine Morrison of Tallahassee, Florida.The family wishes to thank the staff of Clare Bridge for the excellent care they provided to Louise during her stay, and to Big Bend Hospice.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice.
