NEW BRITIAN - Linda E. Smith, 72, passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010 at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. She was the wife of the late John Smith Sr.Mrs. Smith was born March 15, 1938 in New Haven the daughter of the late Foster and Ethel (Hurlburt) Clarke. She was raised in Hamden attending local schools before moving to Wallingford in 1955. She resided in Wallingford until 1976 when she moved to Meriden. She was employed by Radnor Manufacturing in Milldale until her retirement in the late 1980's. She resided to New Britain to be closer to her family in 2005.Mrs. Smith is survived by her three sons, John Jr., Bret and Eric; her daughters, Ethel Lynn Farrell and her husband, Mike and Cindy Magnani and her husband, Mark; her brother, Douglas; her sisters, Dolores, Ellen, Paula, Wendy and Loretta; many grand and great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she is predeceased by her brother, Foster Jr.; her sister, Arlene Thompson and her longtime companion, Ray Shampang.A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery, Wallingford Road. Per Mrs. Smith's request, there will be no calling hours. Mrs. Smith's family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Hospital for Special Care 2150 Corbin Ave., New Britain, CT 06053.
