<!-- FH = Henline-Hughes Funeral Home -->LEE ROY JOHNSONSPRUCE PINE - Lee Roy Johnson, 84, of Spruce Pine, N.C., passed away Monday, October 8th. He went to meet his Maker from the home of his loving companion, Issoline Sparks, surrounded by her, his children and grandchildren. The son of the late Tim and Mamie Johnson, Lee was a livelong native of Mitchell County, and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He is survived by three sisters, Opal English of Christrianburg, Va., Eudeana Grindstaff and Jewell Styles of Spruce Pine; two brothers, J.D. Johnson and Richard Johnson of Spruce Pine; three children by the late Katherine Warren Johnson, Donnie Johnson, Darlene Johnson, and Ron Johnson, all of Spruce Pine; and six grandchildren, Darci Hill (husband, Jeremy) of Asheville, Bobby Brandl and Nate Brandl of Spruce Pine, Lindsay Smith of Burnsville, Ian Shephard-Johnson of Kona, Dakota Garland of Buladean. The family had a small gathering at the home of Issoline Sparks on Wednesday, October 10th. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, whose staff were an unfailing support these past years, and whom were regarded by Lee as part of the family.Henline-Hughes is serving the family.
