John Larry Smith, 60, husband of Brenda Grant Smith for 41 years, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008.Mr. Smith was born Jan. 8, 1948, in the Hillside community to the late R.M. Smith and Melree Adair Smith. He worked as a machinist with the J.D. Hollingsworth Co. and with Cryovac. He was a member of the Simpsonville Masonic Lodge and the Hejaz Shriner's, and was an avid golfer. He was a member of Simpsonville First Baptist Church, where he attended the Friendship Sunday School Class.Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Vic Smith; a daughter, Shannon Knutti and her husband, David; a sister, Angela Ponder; and his fab-five granddaughters who knew him as "Pops", Sydney and Emma Smith, and Caroline, Sarah Beth and Jenny Knutti. He was predeceased by a brother, Steve Smith; and a sister, Marlene Wilson.Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Simpsonville First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Randy Harling and the Rev. Ashley Moore. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the new sanctuary of the church from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.Memorials may be made to Simpsonville First Baptist Church Kingdom Cause Fund, 301 Church St., Simpsonville, SC 29681; or to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 W.
