Obituary of Kenneth-Newton Davis

Kenneth Newton Davis March 31, 1915 - August 25, 2012 CANTERBURY - Kenneth Newton Davis passed away August 25, 2012 at the age of 97. He was born March 31, 1915, the son of Bertha Clark and Henry Newton Davis. He leaves one brother Ellsworth Davis of Canterbury and was predeceased by his brother Addison Davis. He leaves one son and three daughters, Allen Davis of Canterbury, Marjorie Meyer of California, Beverly Schena and Kathleen Davis both of Canterbury, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Victoria Barton whom he married on August 6, 1937 in Canterbury. She passed away in 1982. He was a dedicated father and friend to all who knew him. He was always ready to help anyone in need. He was a hard worker who seldom sat still. His first job was at the age of seven delivering blueberries by horse and wagon to neighbors in Canterbury. As a teenager he worked on his parent's farm and other farms in the Canterbury area. His grandfather bought him his first Ford when he was 16 and his love for driving and being on the road began. He operated heavy equipment and worked on building roads in Canterbury and Plainfield. He was a self taught Ford mechanic and was well known in the area for his ability to quickly diagnose and fix any mechanical problem. He was employed at Gallup Lumbertown for many years. He was in charge of the fleet of trucks and was always more than happy to deliver loads of lumber to the branches all over New England. He loved those road trips and was happy to be called upon to rescue and drive home a truck that nobody else could fix. After his retirement he worked as a mechanic at his leisure and taught many young men in the area how to fix their own vehicles. He could fix any motor vehicle as long as it was a Ford. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. in Tillinghast Funeral Home, 25 Main Street, Central Village. Burial will be in Carey Cemetery, Canterbury. There are no calling hours.
