JULIA B. JACKSON Julia B. Jackson, age 79, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2014 in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Julia was born in Greensboro, North Carolina the daughter of the late Robert L. and Maude H. Blanchard. Julia attended William and Mary College, eventually attaining her Master's Degree from Nova University. She eventually landed in Key West and over the next 45 years, met her late husband William H. Jackson, III, worked as a dedicated teacher for 34 years and raised her children. As an accomplished artist Julia was a passionate member of the Art Club. She regularly won awards for her artwork at the local and state level. She was particularly fond of lighthouses, which she often painted, as well as nature scenes depicting various settings of Keys life. Upon retirement, Julia moved to Port St. Lucie where she became active in various clubs and service organizations over the years including the League of Women Voters, ADK Sorority, and most recently serving as the President of GFWC Port St Lucie Women's Club from 2010- 2012. She continued to share her love of teaching by volunteering at the local library to tutor children who struggled with reading. An avid reader herself, she would log up to 300 books a year. Julia was also a beloved and devoted member of Grace Emmanuel Church where she also taught Sunday school. Julia loved to travel and in recent years traveled to exotic locations like Peru and Alaska, as well as visiting some great American landmarks in San Francisco and Seattle. She is survived by her son George S. Mitchell, Jr. and wife Elva of Oceanside, CA, daughter Cheri Mitchell-Santiago and husband Manuel of Homestead, FL, and brother Robert L. Blanchard, Jr. along with 6 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Services and a reception will be held Friday, July 11, 2014 at Grace Emmanuel Church, 707 Kitterman Road at 11:00 a.m., followed by a brief ceremony at South Florida National Cemetery where she will be interred with her late husband.
