Family-Placed ObituaryMORTON T. DAVIS, Jr. 'Dave' Morton T. Davis, Jr. 'Dave' of Delray Beach, Florida, died on Friday, March 6, 2009 after a prolonged battle which he confronted with courage and dignity. For over a decade his unrelenting positive outlook was an inspiration to his friends and family. Born in Richmond, he was a descendant of the First Families of Virginia whose ancestors included two Presidents of the United States. At 14 years old he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. While in high school he was appointed by the Bishop of the Diocese Southern Virginia as a Lay Reader in the Episcopal Church. Dave began his long and varied television career in Richmond and after many years there he became a resident of the Palm Beach area in 1969 when he was employed by WPTV channel 5 as an investigative reporter and weatherman. Shortly after his arrival at Channel 5 he also became host of the popular syndicated show 'Dialing For Dollars'. His television years spanned three decades. And in the early days of 'American Bandstand' he substituted for Dick Clark as host. During his television years he received various awards for excellence in broadcasting including the UPI Broadcasters Association of Virginia first place award for the 'Best Regularly Scheduled News Program' of 1962. Following his broadcasting career he became a licensed real estate broker and until shortly before his death, although semi-retired, he and his wife Lorayne owned and operated Davis Real Estate. He was an avid boater for many years, a certified 'water safety instructor' and had a true love for the Florida sun. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and did so extensively covering much of the globe, with an African safari being a favorite. He was a member of the Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach and was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Dave is survived by his wife Lorayne and two children who he considered his greatest achievements, Douglas of Los Angeles, CA and Debra of North Palm Beach, FL and one grandchild Kanon Wigal. He is also survived by two stepsons, Harry Binnie and his wife Dorothy of Boca Raton, FL, and Charles Binnie of Cedar Lake, IN; four step-grandchildren, Alison, Harrison, Genevieve and Edmund. A service will be held on March 10, 2009. Dr. Robert Norris of the Royal Poinciana Chapel will be officiating. To express condolences and/or make donations Visit PalmBeachPost.com/obituaries
