->Joseph E. Joe Brotherton, 82, of Hanson, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2010, in Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Catherine (Smith) Brotherton. Joe was born in Norwalk, Conn., son of the late Joseph and Wilhelmina (Naumann) Brotherton. He was a Hanson resident for many years. Joe was retired from the Tilcon Company of Brockton as a low bed driver. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, he served from 1945-1947 as a Seaman 2nd Class. He was a member of the V.F.W and American Legion of Whitman, also the Hanson AA in Hanson. Joe enjoyed his TV. In addition to his wife Catherine, he is survived by his daughter, Lynn Clements of Plymouth. He was the brother of Walt Brotherton of Texas; grandfather of Bart Clements of Hanson, Joey Clements and his wife Lisa of Plymouth; great-grandfather of Daviann Solomon of Brockton. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Bob and Ed Sturges, Bev Gamble and Ruth Sturges. His services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 9 a.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary), Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 10, from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
