Obituary of John Wall

WALL, John HerbertWWII, Sergeant, Canadian Army Postal Corps,Long Standing Member of the Royal Canadian LegionThe Good Lord took our dear Father to eternal rest on Monday, August 1, 2016. Dad was a loving and caring Father who fostered a true sense of what it meant to be part of a Family. Growing up as a member of the "Wall and Bradley" Clan on a Farm in Hazeldean, he learned quickly what community spirit was all about, and what it meant to share with others. Joining the Army in Stittsville in 1940, Dad served overseas with the Canadian Postal Corps for six years. He was very proud of his time spent in uniform, and had fond memories of his tour overseas, enjoying getting together with fellow Veterans. Dad met his beautiful Bride, Mary Hobbs, at a post war reception dance held at the Orange Hall in Hazeldean, and they enjoyed 62 years together before Mom died in 2014. After the War, Dad decided to remain with the Post Office, and worked as Postmaster both at RCAF Station Uplands, and in Stirling, ON. Dad was happiest just tinkering around, outside in the fresh air, and spending time with Family and Friends, especially with his Children: Philip (Sheila Gormley), Kevin, and Joan (Keith Pelley), and with his Grandchildren: Christie, Brian, Katie, Jason, Shane and Hope, all of whom he was especially proud, and with the Family''s most recent addition, his Great-Grandson Oliver. Dad was the son of Sarah (nee Bradley) and John Wall (both deceased) of Hazeldean, ON, and special Nephew for his caregiver Aunt "Nellie" Wall, twin Brother of Alice (Weldon) Johnston, and Brother of Percy (Dorothy and Gail), Mary (Charlie) Patterson, Allen (Eleanor), Chuck (Isabel), Lois (Clarence) Sample, and Jimmy (Shirley); Brother-in-Law of Ebert (Audrey and Doreen) Hobbs, Harry (Edith) Hobbs, Bernice (Cliff) Simpson, and Craig (Joyce) Hobbs. Dad enjoyed entertaining Family and Friends, and socializing over a "Happy Hour". Dad''s joviality was contagious. He had a special knack of livening up a Party with some of his stories, and Ottawa Valley hospitality. Dad''s Wake and Visitation will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church, 1619 Main Street, Stittsville on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m., lunch reception to follow. Interment at Maple Grove Cemetery, Hazeldean. In lieu of Flowers, the Family would appreciate donations be made to either the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or to the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalous Association of Ontario.
