Obituary of John-Paul Taylor

John Paul Taylor died July 21, 2010, in intensive care in Gavle, Sweden, from an infection that took a rapid course. The funeral was held in Bollnas, Sweden, attended by John's wife, Britta, relatives, friends and neighbors. John was born in Newark, N.J., in 1930. His parents were Roy Taylor and Amelia (nee Herrmann) and a sister, Rosemary. The family later moved to Irvington, N.J., where John graduated from high school. He had four very good years at Upsala College in East Orange, N.J. and graduated in 1952. He worked at Weston Electrics as a time study engineer until he was drafted into the Army and sent to Darmstadt, Germany, a blessing in disguise, John said. After that, John taught high school in Newark until retirement and may be remembered by many former students. John and his wife, Britta, lived for many years in Millington, N.J., until they moved to southwest Virginia in 1997. In retirement John had an enduring interest in researching and writing about the ancient Near East and Greece. His intellectual interests were wide reaching, but he also had a great hobby in his interest in cars.
