John Paul Died Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the Marine Base Hospital, Camp Pendleton CA. Born September 7, 1932 to Thomas and Helen O'Herron McGill in Elmira NY. Gregarious, faithful to God, family, friends and country. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Justine Seighardt McGill; their four children and eleven grandchildren; sisters, Jacqueline (Donald) Savage of NJ, Margaret (Thomas) Zukas of Utica NY; brothers, Thomas of VA and Richard (Helen) of Elmira Heights NY. There are several cousins, nieces and nephews. A thirty-five year resident of Carlsbad CA, John was active in civic affairs, St. Patrick's Church and the Boy Scouts of America. A Colonel of Marines, he spent six years on active duty; a year in Viet Nam. As a Boy Scout Leader he was honored with the Silver Beaver Award. John graduated from Cathedral High School, Syracuse NY in 1950; from LeMoyne College in 1954 and from the American Institute of Foreign Trade in Arizona. He spent most of his civilian work life in banking, finance and marketing. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church in Carlsbad CA on February 25, 2003. A Committal Service by the Reverend Daniel Mulhauser, S.J. of LeMoyne College will be held at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery, Elmira on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. Full military honors will be accorded by the Marine Corps League, Edward J. Brewer Detachment. Arrangements are by McInerny Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Villages, 3550 "E" Street, San Diego CA 92102.
