PATON John D. Paton III, age 71 of Murrells Inlet, S.C., passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 at Tidelands Hospice House in Georgetown, S.C. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late John D. and Meryl Paton. Mr. Paton was a U.S. Army veteran and in his youth had been an Eagle Scout. He had received his BS degree from Marietta College and was a manager for IBM for more than 31 years. During his lifetime Jack had been a respected member of his community. He was a former chairperson of the Public Housing Board of Stratford and was a devoted member of Nichols United Methodist Church. Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy Paton; son, Christopher J. Paton and his wife, Shauna of Milford; son, Daniel Paton and his fianc, Laura Boccardi of Bristol; daughter, Kathleen Childers and her husband, Roy of Belmar, N.J.; grandchildren, Jacqueline and Joshua Paton of Milford; sister, Gayle Clelland and husband David of Richardson, Texas; and sister-in-law, Anne Pall and husband, Jim of Trumbull. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 11a.m. at the Nichols United Methodist Church, 35 Shelton Road, Trumbull, CT. Interment in St. John's Cemetery will be private. At the family's request calling hours have been omitted.
