PLANT CITY -- For the last six years, Mrs. Jean Peters and her husband enjoyed traveling the world extensively. "Her favorite travel experience was aboard the smallest cruise lines and riverboats where she always enjoyed meeting new people and the exciting conversation and fellowship," said her husband of six years, Charles F. "Charlie" Peters. "Everybody kind of migrated to her. She was the kind of gal that could draw a friendship from anybody." The retired owner and operator of Genesis Landscaping and Lawn Maintenance died of complications from lung failure Wednesday (Dec. 3, 2003) at South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City. She was 72. Born in Headland, Ala., on June 20, 1931, she moved to Hillsborough County when she was young and grew up in the Pinecrest-Picnic area, where she attended school. With her son and son-in-law, she operated Genesis Landscaping and Lawn Maintenance for 10 years. Following her retirement in 1997 and her marriage in October to Charles, who was a retired engineer for W.R. Grace, the couple moved to the Meadows of Countrywood Mobile Home Community in Plant City. The couple traveled the United States in a small motor home, took a cruise to Alaska and traveled out of the country to Ireland, the Windward, Leeward, and Grenadine islands of the Caribbean. They also traveled to Europe and Russia. "Her favorite place was Russia. She enjoyed Ireland, but Russia was spectacular," Charlie Peters said. Mrs. Peters was a devoted member of Faith Lighthouse Assembly of God in Plant City. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Peters is survived by her son, David Joiner, Dothan, Ala.; daughters, Pamela Parkins, Cocoa Beach, Lindy Wentworth, Julie Laudon, both of Lakeland; brothers, Aaron Walker, Brooksville, Thomas Walker, Orange Park; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be this evening from 5 to 8 at Trinity Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, State Road 39 N., Plant City.
