Obituary of Jean Anderson


Jean Donahue Anderson (March 28, 1925 | December 26, 2011) Jean D. Anderson, who taught reading and mathematics throughout her life, died at age 86 at her daughters home in Buffalo, New York. She graduated from St. Joseph College, Hartford, CT and took advanced courses in reading under the auspices of The Orton Society. She moved to Buffalo in 1956 when her husband, Russell, became headmaster at The Elmwood Franklin School. In 1979 they moved to Maryland where she continued teaching and Mr. Anderson was head of the Country School. She was president of the local chapter of Sweet Adelines Upon retiring in 1986 she and her husband moved to Harwich, Cape Cod and Juno Beach, FL. Jean was president of the Nauset Garden Club, Vice President of Bayberry Quilters, and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans. She was an avid boater and ardent needlepointer. Mrs. Anderson is survived by her sons Thomas S. of Westport, CT, Michael K. of Dayton OH, her daughters Sarah A. DeVantier of Buffalo, NY and Cathy A. Estes of Thetford, VT, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Private Services will be held. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to The Animal Rescue League of Boston, Route 6A, East Brewster MA.
