JEAN A. JOHNSON VALPARAISO, IN Jean A. Johnson, 94, of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012 in Conroe, TX. She was born January 6, 1918 in Benton Harbor, MI to John and Chasta (Jewell) Allett. Jean received a B.S. from Valparaiso University at the very early age of 18 years and then her Masters in Mathematics from Purdue University which she utilized to teach at Ben Franklin Middle School in Valparaiso for many years. She was a member of the VU Guild, the Extension Club, an honorary member of Alpha Phi Delta sorority and an avid fan of the Valparaiso University Crusaders men's basketball team enjoying nearly all 2011 games from her courtside seat. Jean was a longtime member of the Sons of Norway. She worshipped at Immanuel Lutheran Church where she had been active in many capacities for most of her life. She lived a life of service to others. In 1939 Jean married Edwin A. Johnson who preceded her in death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Christopher Johnson; sister, Claire (Ward) Williamson; brother, Robert (Dorothy) Allett; sister-in-law Dorothy Allett; and daughter- in-law, Carolyn Johnson. She is survived by their children: Edwin (Michele Monson) Johnson of Valparaiso, Suzanne (Don) Granger of Port Richey, FL, Jay (Joy) Johnson of Spring, TX, Katherine (Frank) Harles of Leslie, MO, Noel (Charlotte) Johnson of Maricopa, AZ, Dean (Ann) Johnson of Minnetonka, MN, and Matthew (Sonia) Johnson of Ipswich, MA; sister, Jacqueline (Lloyd) Hermance of Ft. Wayne, IN; brother-in-law, Ward (Claire) Williamson of Arizona; and, 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loyal canine companion, Beau Winkle, who was a source of joy and comfort in her life, spending a great deal of his life with her. A visitation will be held Sunday from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso with funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. and burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery.
