Jan Ashmore Jackson TRYON, NC-- Jeannette Alva Gregorie Ashmore-Jackson, 59 years of age, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, February 15, 2010, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum, SC. She was born and lived in Tryon, NC. She was the daughter of the late William Greene Ashmore and Jeannette Alva Gregorie Ashmore. Jan attended the Tryon Schools and graduated from the Spartanburg Day School in 1968. She received her BFA from UNC-Greensboro in 1972 and received her MA from University of South Carolina - Spartanburg. She attended the Penland School of Crafts and the Greenville South Carolina Museum School. Jan taught art (K-12) in several school systems. Jan was a potter represented by galleries in SC, NC, GA, NYC, New Zealand, Scotland and England. She is survived by her husband, William M. Jackson; her Yorkie, DZL; and two sisters, Elisabeth Scott Ashmore of Atlanta, GA and Beverly Ashmore Moore of Tryon; two nieces, Whitney Lauren Moore and Lindsay Elisabeth Moore; and a brother-in-law, Lindsey Moore also reside in Tryon, NC. A private service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
