James Mackenzie, born in 1922, spouse of Helen Atkinson, son of William and Elmira, father of Susan, Christine, Black River, Patti, Beth, Sandra, Napan, Donna, Miramichi and Dianne, died on March 29, 2014 at 91 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
James MacKenzie 1922 – 2014 Miramichi – James MacKenzie, husband of the late Helen (Atkinson) MacKenzie, of the North Napan Road, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the age of 91. Born in Napan, NB on September 5, 1922, he was the son of the late William and Elmira (Loggie) MacKenzie. He was a retired employee of the Department of National Defence – CFB Chatham. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in Canada, England, overseas in North Africa with the Royal Canadian Air Force, as a wireless operator. He was a member of Carmel United Church and served on Board of Stewards, Session and Manse Committee within the church. James was a kind–hearted soul with a most contagious smile and laugh. He was a wonderful hard–working provider for his wife and family, who could turn his hand to almost anything. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed going snowmobiling and four-wheeling with his family, friends and ATV Club, splitting fire wood for his family, or just enjoying nature. He would never see anyone stranded or in need of help. Jimmy will be sadly missed on our adventurous family drives. He was survived by six daughters: Dianne MacKenzie, Miramichi; Donna MacKenzie, Napan; Sandra Gilliss, Miramichi; Beth MacKenzie, Napan; Patti MacKenzie (Stacy MacPherson), Black River Bridge; Christine MacKenzie, Napan; one sister Catherine Campbell, Grand Bend, Ontario; two sisters-in-law Mary Atkinson (Archie) Miramichi; Elizabeth Grasman (Peter), Fredericton; five grandchildren Brad (Lindsay), Dean (Jennie), Shannon, Charmayne (William) and Will; three great-grandchildren Ryan, Tristan and Lauren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Helen; infant daughter Susan Jean; two sisters Lena Harvey, Mina MacKenzie; three brothers Gordon, John and Byron; one grandson Aaron Gilliss (Ruth Ann); one great-grandson Grady Gilliss. Visiting will be held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd. 140 King Street. Miramichi, on Monday March 31st, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held from Carmel United Church on Tuesday April 1st, 2014 at 2 pm with Penny Postlethwaite officiating. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery later in the spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Carmel United Church or a charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated by the family.
