Obituary of James-Luther Davis


James Luther Davis MONTICELLO - James Luther Davis, 77, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, in Thomasville, Ga. The service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday at Olive Baptist Church in Monticello. Interment will follow at Roseland Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT today at Beggs Funeral Home Monticello Chapel (850-997-5612).Memorial contributions may be made to Olive Baptist Church Building Fund, 6063 Boston Highway, Monticello, FL 32344. Mr. Davis was born Nov. 27, 1928, in Devereux, Ga., the son of James Leonard and Mamie Lou Cato Davis. Mr. Davis was the owner and operator of Davis Motors for 35 years in Monticello and a lifetime member of the Olive Baptist Church.He served in the Georgia National Guard and was the blood donor of the year for the South Georgia Blood Bank. He was a graduate of Jefferson County High School and Georgia Military College. Mr. Davis will always be remembered by many family and friends for his love and care that he gave to others through his Christian way of life.Survivors include a son, Ricky Davis of Leesburg; a daughter, Kathy Davis Joyner (and Bubba) of Monticello; five grandchildren, Dedra Davis Stratton, Dawn Davis, John Joyner (and Kim), Roslyn Joyner Bass (and Kent) and Ginni Joyner; and three great-grandchildren, Dane Stratto, Tripp Joyner and Brewster Bass.Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Nell Davis.
