ANDERSON, James Jacob Age 91, died January 27, 2009. Born in Nashville to Bessie Bruce and James Jacob Anderson, Jr. Loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather and attentive brother. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Louise Latimer Anderson. Survived by his five children, James Hagan Anderson of Charleston, SC, John Latimer Anderson, M.D. and his wife, Mindy of Brentwood, David Bruce Anderson of Durham, NC, Katherine Elizabeth Anderson of Mt. Juliet and Charles Cragin Anderson, M.D. and his wife, Kaye of Boulder, CO; his sister-in-law, Mary Lane Meryman and her husband, H. T. Meryman of Ashton, MD; and eleven grandchildren. Jim graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Miami where he met his future wife, Louise. He served as a communications officer aboard the USS Shangri-La in the Pacific during World War II. While on leave from the Navy in 1944, he and Louise married in her hometown, Chevy Chase, MD. Jim and Louise began their married life in Miami, FL. Jim's career with Bell Telephone took his family from Florida to New Jersey, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama, before returning to Nashville, where he retired as General Manager of Network and Engineering Services. Jim and Louise resided on Kingsbury Drive for 34 years and subsequently, at The Blakeford in Green Hills. Jim delighted in his children and grandchildren, reveling in their successes and sympathizing with their sorrows. He never met a stranger, possessing a unique gift of befriending and charming all. Jim was an active member of his church, Calvary United Methodist for almost 40 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed assisting the elderly and disabled, by volunteering with such organizations as Meals on Wheels and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, earning recognition as Volunteer-of-the-Week from the Nashville Tennessean. In recent years, Jim enjoyed weekly lunches with a group of longtime friends, and also making new friends with fellow veterans at the American Legion. His intellect, wise counsel and deep affection will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 1 p.m., at Calvary United Methodist Church in Green Hills. Services will follow at 2 p.m., with Reverend Peter van Eys officiating. A private family burial will follow.
