DAVIS, Dr. James HenryôJimö, age 71, died of cancer on May 1, 2011. He issurvived by his a sister, Ms.Carolyn Russell of Lapine,AL, two brothers, Rev. BillNewton Davis of Wetumpka, AL, and Mr. Jack D. Davis of Bradleyton, AL, sixnieces and three nephews.He is preceded in death byhis wife, Dorothy PattersonDavis, his parents, JasperNewton and Sallie MaudeDavis and a sister Ms. Margaret Robinson. Dr. Davis was born andraised in Alabama. Hegraduated from SamfordUniversity of Birmingham,New Orleans Baptist Seminary with M.Th and D.Mindegrees and did additional graduate studies at theUniversity of Alabama. He served as pastor of theOld Lebanon BaptistChurch near Troy, AL from1960 to 1970. He served 27years with the MadisonCounty Juvenile Court andwas the administrator for 13years. When the FederalCourt ordered changes tothe Department of YouthServices, he chaired themonitoring team to assurethat those orders were met.Dr. Davis served as president of the Huntsville-Madison County Mental HealthBoard, the Alabama Council on Crime and Delinquency, the Chief Probation Officers Association,and the Juvenile DetentionAdministrators Association.He and his wife moved toCelebration FL in 1997where he spent three yearsresearching and writing hisfamilyÆs history. The funeral was held at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy,Alabama on Saturday,May 7, 2011 at 12:00 pmwith Dr. Mickey Castleberryofficiating. Visitation washeld one hour prior to theservice at the funeralhome. Burial followed atOld Lebanon BaptistChurch Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Troydirecting.
