<!-- FH = Newcomer Cremation & Funeral Services -->James R. GoodwinJuly 19, 2011James Russell Goodwin, 60, formerly of Ft. Myers, passed away July 19, 2011 at his home in Titusville, FL. He was born June 14, 1951 in Miami, FL to the late Harry and Frances Goodwin. He was a graduate of Hialeah High School and the University of South Florida. In 1974 he was hired by the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission as an outdoor recreation planner in the Everglades Wildlife Management Area. In 1985, Jim accepted a land manager position with the South Florida Water Management District's Save Our River program where he was involved with the acquisition and management of many of the District's environmentally sensitive lands. From 1994 until he retired in 2010, he served as the District's first land manager for the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (CREW) lands in Lee and Collier counties.Blessed with the ability to see the humor in almost everything, Jim's wit and pithy comments were legendary. However, Jim's true legacy is his 37-year commitment to the conservation and management of south Florida's natural lands. Through his leadership and mentoring of others, he ensured that these lands will continue to be properly protected, managed and conserved for the next generations.Jim will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his best friend and wife of 18 years, Layne Hamilton. He also is survived by his brother, Larry Goodwin, three sisters, Cheryl Trobough, Kathy Hochholzer, and Susie Turner, and numerous nephews and nieces and several grand nephews and nieces. Jim's passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of all who knew him.A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 11 am on August 20, 2011 at Cypress Lake Presbyterian Church, 8260 Cypress Lake Drive, Ft.
