Obituary of James-Ervin Lee


James Ervin Lee, 87, husband of the late Lillie Pauline Robins Lee, of 406 Oconee Station Road, Walhalla, S.C., died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the Mariner Health Care facility in Seneca, S.C. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Lee was the son of the late Austin Lee and Lela Orr Lee. A lumberman at heart, he was the owner of Long and Lee Lumber Co. in Westminster. He was retired employee of the Torrington Co. and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Lee is survived by a son, Edward Lee of Tamassee; a daughter, Louise Towe, and husband, Clarence of Walhalla; brothers, Clarence Lee, Carl Lee, Jack Lee and Ray Lee, all of Walhalla, and Austin Lee of Pendleton; sisters, Agnes Oliver of Columbus, Ohio, and Ruth Edwards of Walhalla; a son-in-law, Kenneth Hopkins and wife, Judy G. Hopkins of Seneca; four grandchildren, Jeff Hopkins and wife, Sherri G., Lisa L. Hanvey and husband, Steve, Jarrett Towe and wife, Sarah R., and Chris Lee; and four great-grandchildren, Maclaine Hanvey, James Hanvey, Mackenzie Hopkins and Jarrett Ross Towe. Mr. Lee is also survived by his caregiver, Stacy Rector. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Lee was predeceased by sons, Bill Lee and Bobby Lee; a daughter, Judith L. Hopkins; a grandson, Jim Lee; a daughter-in-law, Rachel B. Lee; a brother, Ralph Lee; and a sister, Viola Beaty. Funeral arrangements will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, March 2, 2003, at Davenport Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Monday, before the service. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted, or memorials should be made to the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201. Davenport Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
