DAVIS, James Donald, 83, of Lithia, Florida, passed away on July 30, 2014, after a lengthy illness. He was born April 9, 1931, in Pleasant Grove, Florida, to James Monroe and Laura Emily (Hunter) Davis. Donald's working career was marked with several successful business ventures in the site preparation, land reclamation, construction and heavy equipment businesses. These ventures allowed him to develop lasting, positive relationships with many business associates throughout the Central Florida area. He also served as President of the Hillsborough County Farm Bureau. Donald was a consummate salesman and was very well-liked by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. Donald's personal life was devoted to his loving family and helping others in need. After spending time in the Army National Guard, Donald became a Master Mason at the Brandon, Florida, Lodge; a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason; a member of the Egypt Temple Shrine, and the Brandon Shrine; a 33rd Degree Mason; Jester and a member of the Flying Fez. Donald, along with others, was one of the originators of the Flying Fez program, which helped so many burned and injured children get needed help in a timely fashion. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Emily Davis; and brothers, Lavoyure and Virgil Davis. Donald is survived by his loving, caring, and supportive wife of sixty-three years, Polly (Parker) Davis (affection-ately known as 'Pug' to Donald). Polly was instrumental in, and a large, significant part of, Donald's successes in business and other endeavors. He is also survived by his son, Richard (Rick) Davis (Carmen); and his daughter, Beverley Davis Thompson (John); four grandchildren, Patrick Thompson (Alana), Erinn Davis DeJose (Frank), Savannah Davis (John Austin), Natalie Thompson; and two great- grandchild-ren, Jeremiah Davis Austin, and Lindley Thompson. He is also survived by his brothers, Carl (Grace) and C. W. (Miriam) Davis and his sister, Geneva (Al) Smith. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 4 at 11:00 A.M. at Hopewell Funeral Home, 6005 CR 39 S, Plant City; where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M.
