MacDONALD Ian F., LCol., OMM CD Passed away Sunday August 28, 2011, at Iler Lodge, Essex Ontario. Predeceased by his wife Margaret Ellen. Survived by his daughters Catherine MacDonald (Windsor) and Tina McMenemy (Essex). Dearest Grandpa to Ian and Tyler McMenemy. Dear brother to Barbara Kersey (Windsor). Dear uncle to Grant, Mark and Sheila. Col MacDonald served in The Essex Scottish Regiment during World War II and was captured in Dieppe. He spent 2 years and 10 months as a prisoner of war in Germany. After the war he joined the militia in Windsor with The Windsor Regiment and rose to command the Windsor Regiment from 1967 to 1970. He served as Honorary LCol. of both Regiments. He was called out of retirement to command The Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment from 1975 to 1977. He was a member of Essex and Kent Scottish Regimental Association, The Scottish Borderers Foundation, The Military Institute of Windsor, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12, and a member and elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Mr. MacDonald was also retired from Chrysler Canada. Friends may call at the Walter D. Kelly Funeral Home (1969 Wyandotte St. E.) on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Veteran's service will be held under the auspices of The Windsor Veterans Memorial Services Committee On Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Regimental Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, September 01, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Major Kim Gilliland officiating. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Essex and Kent Scottish Regimental Association, The Canadian Diabetes Assocition, or to the charity of your choice.
