Born February 26, 1917, in Pickens County, SC, Helen was a daughter of the late Samuel H. and Thelma Lark Lusk. Helen was educated at Lander College, Greenwood, SC, as were five of her sisters. She taught at Crosswell Elementary School in Pickens County before her marriage. After she and her husband settled in Dayton, OH, in 1946, Helen earned an education degree at Wright State University and returned to teaching. She taught at Morrison Elementary School in Dayton and retired in 1973 to become a full time caregiver to her son, Bob. A devoted wife and mother, Helen believed in her Lord, Jesus Christ, and served Him and trusted Him through all the challenges of her life. She was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Dayton. Helen had a delightful sense of humor and was joy and inspiration to all who were blessed to know and love her. She is survived by her twin brother, Herbert H. Lusk of Liberty, SC; brothers, Sam Glenn Lusk (Margaret) and William T. Lusk (Nancy), both of Easley, SC; sisters, Freddie Lusk Jewsbury (Steve), also of Easley and Winola Lusk Watt of Columbus, GA; grandsons, Mark and Bill House of Florida, Chad Cox of Ohio, and Brandon Cox of Illinois; eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, Robert E. Cox, Jr., and David L. Cox; daughter, Mary Helen Cox House; grandson, Steven Cox; sisters, Mary Wanda Lusk, Hazel Lusk Miller, Frances Lusk Mercer and Joann Lusk Allen. Funeral services will be at Georges Creek Baptist Church, 1991 Saluda Dam Rd., Easley, SC, Saturday, July 2, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning one hour prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
