RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Helen (Engstrom) Hancock, 93, of Ridgefield, formerly of Fitchburg, died on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Laurel Ridge Nursing and Skilled Care Center, Ridgefield. Mrs. Hancock was born in Fitchburg on July 30, 1913, a daughter of the late Knut and Anna (Anderson) Engstrom. She attended Fitchburg schools, Fitchburg High School and graduated from the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Hancock was a nurse for many years at the Burbank Hospital and later with the former District Nursing Association of Ridgefield. A resident of Ridgefield for the past 20 years coming from Fitchburg, she was a member of Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church of Ridgefield. A daughter, Ruth Hancock Smith of Danbury; three grandchildren, Carol S. Terry, Craig H. Smith and Matthew E. Smith; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Anna, Grayson and Cameron, as well as several nieces and nephews survive. A memorial service will take place at the Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, Ridgefield. There will be no calling hours. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, is in charge of arrangements.
