The Rev. Gladys Evans Davis, 79, Port Charlotte, died Dec. 31, 2002. She was born June 1, 1923, in Glen Dale, W.Va. She was an honors graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, with a degree in physical education. She received her master's degree in counseling from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She was a Marine Corps veteran who served during World War II. She was ordained a deacon in the United Methodist Church and served seven years as pastor at the Finleyville United Methodist Church in Finleyville, Pa. She served as a counseling pastor for five years at the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Women's Marine Association and served as its national chaplain for 10 years. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Howard; daughters Virginia of Redmond, Wash., and Margaret of Collegeville, Pa.; and a brother, Ross Evans of Lewisburg, W.Va. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be later at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, with military honors by the Marine Corps. Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Charlotte Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to the donor's charity of choice.
