Obituary of George-Henry Tilley


George Henry Tilley, 73, died June 25, 2011, at Treasure Coast Hospice Harper House, Stuart. He was born in Trenton, Mich., and lived in Stuart for 16 years, coming from Lincoln Park, Mich. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a sergeant in the Marine Corps. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Palm City. Before retiring, he was employed as building superintendant of Hannah House in Detroit for more than 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Nancy A. Tilley of Stuart; daughters, Lori L. Humenik of Palm City and Ann Gildersleeve of Austin, Texas; sons, Jon Gildersleeve and Matt Gildersleeve, both of Stuart, and Paul Gildersleeve of Lincoln Park; brothers, David Tilley of South Rockwood, Mich., and Gerald Tilley of Stuart; sisters, Caroline Leedy of Trenton, Midge Gaynier of South Rockwood and Anna Stumpmeir of Carleton, Mich.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Blossom Knopp. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, P.O. Box 916, Palm City, FL 34991; holyredeemercc.org. Services: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockwood. Inurnment will be in Michigan. Arrangements are by Forest Hills Funeral Homes Palm City Chapel.
