HAMES, Frederick Thomas Died peacefully May 2, 2011, at Leamington District Memorial Hospital with family members at his side. He was born July 26, 1914, in Woodstock, Ont. Predeceased by his wife, Alfreda (1998), to whom he was married for 58 years. They lived in Windsor, Tecumseh and Brampton before moving in retirement to Harp Lake, Huntsville. Later, they returned to live in a retirement community in Leamington. He graduated from W. D. Lowe Vocational School, Windsor, in 1929 and worked as a farmhand during the Depression. He was credit manager at Borden Dairy in Walkerville before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and serving as a flight engineer in the Bomber Command. After the war, he began a lengthy career with Chrysler Canada, starting as an investment clerk and rising to become manager of salaried personnel and then manager of hourly rated personnel. Before retiring, he worked briefly as a manager at Chrysler Airtemp in Bramalea. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 261 (Tecumseh), and served in the Anglican Church as parish treasurer, vestryperson and a delegate to the Diocese of Huron Synod. In Leamington, he and his wife were members of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church. He leaves two sons, Jerry (and Barbara) and Kean (and Li-Ling); a daughter-in-law, Vivian; grandchildren, Jason, Cheryl, Jennifer and Christine, and a great-grandchild, Scarlett. A sister, Louisa, and brothers, John and George, predeceased him. Family members express their gratitude for the excellent care he received at Sun Parlor Home for Senior Citizens, where he resided for three years, and to the Leamington District Memorial Hospital. Family and friends will gather at Victoria Greenlawn Memorial Chapel 1525 Hwy. 3, between Howard and Walker Rds., in Oldcastle on June 3 for a family visitation at 2 p.m. and memorial service at 3 p.m. Interment will be in Victoria Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are by the Morris Sutton Funeral Home, www.msuttonfuneral.ca , where messages of condolences may be sent.
