PERRY _ Frank Frank passed away at home on July 29, 2006. He was born in St. Paul's Hospital on January 15, 1923. He was predeceased by his loving wife Doris in 1972, and is survived by his sister Blanche Read, niece Janice Shopka and her husband Michael, nephew Ron Read and his wife Gloria, great nieces Sabrina Hallier and Jennifer Read, great nephew Christopher Read, great great niece Claudia Read, special friends Richard Walton and Celeste Pelc, and many life-long friends in the art and education community. He was predeceased also by his dear friends in the art community, Bill Reid and Dave Marshall. Frank served his country in World War Two from 1943 to 1946 with the Royal Engineers after graduating from Vancouver Technical School in East Vancouver. He also worked for many years with the Union Steamship Company up and down the coast he loved so well, and later attended the University of British Columbia graduating as a teacher in 1953. He subsequently taught in North Vancouver high schools for 30 years, working simultaneously in his parallel career as a sculptor. Frank was the recipient of the Order of Canada and was also a member of the Royal Academy of the Arts for his work as a sculptor. His work was shown in Florence, London, Toronto and Vancouver, and is in various private and public collections in North America and Europe. Frank was a caring and generous family member, friend and educator. His humour and imagination captivated his students and colleagues and his legacy as a teacher, storyteller and artist leave a wonderful legacy for our community. There will be a Memorial Service for Frank at the First Memorial Boal Chapel 1505 Lillooet Road in North Vancouver at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 30. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Heart and Lung Association would be appreciated.
