Obituary of Francis-L. Cooley


COOLEY Francis L. Cooley, Jr., 38, of Interlachen, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Haven Hospice-Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness. “JR”, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was a native of Jacksonville and resided in Putnam County since 1975 coming from Jacksonville. He was a truck driver and member of Teamsters Union #385 and had driven 10 years for Colonial Paper Company in Ocala, 4 years for Consolidated Freight and the last 3 years with ABF Freight Systems. “JR” was a 1986 graduate of Crescent City High School and lettered in football and weight lifting. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Interlachen where he was a Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the Azalea City Motorcycle Club and had coached Babe Ruth baseball in Interlachen. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Michelle Cooley and 2 sons, Kevin and Mark Cooley, all of Interlachen, his parents, Francis L. Cooley, Sr. and Jewell Cooley of Lake Como, 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel Leon Brown and his wife, Candi of Tampa and Willie Thomas Brown of Jacksonville, 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Underwood and Wanda Talley, both of Interlachen, Donna and Randy Bennett of Jacksonville and Fran and Steve Alford of San Mateo, his mother-in-law Sharon Flatter and her husband Tom of Palatka, his wife's father Dan Notestone and his wife, Jackie, of Canal Winchester, OH and his wife's grandfather, Ray Notestone of Reynoldsburg, OH and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Services celebrating “JR's” life will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Crescent City with Dr. James Roberson officiating. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery in Crescent City. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. Flowers are gratefully accepted or the family request memorial donations be made to the building fund, First Baptist Church of Interlachen, P.O. Box 108, Interlachen, FL 32148 or to Haven Hospice-Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
