Obituary of Frances-Theresa-Gosselin Alexander

Frances Theresa Gosselin Alexander, 81, of Hilltop Road, Broadalbin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. She was born in Newport, Vermont, on March 24, 1929, a daughter of Napoleon and Marion Trahan Gosselin. She grew up there where she learned French in grammar school and had many fond memories of her time at Sacred Heart being a cheerleader and playing clarinet in the school band. Fran attended St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Brighton, MA, graduating with her R.N., something of which she was very proud. She lived in Broadalbin, NY, for the past 42 years. Mrs. Alexander worked for 44 years as an R.N., 28 of those years at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY, providing attentive care to her patients and always advocating for them. When her children grew older, she obtained a Realtor's license and sold real estate in the Fulton-Montgomery area for several years. Fran was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Broadalbin and was dedicated to her Roman Catholic faith all her life. Her actions spoke more than words ever could. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, David L. Alexander; a sister, Louise; and her infant brother, Eugene. Survivors include her husband, Frederic A. Alexander, whom she married on December 29, 1956; a daughter, Susan Avondolio of Burnt Hills, NY; a son, Mark (Kelly) Alexander of Waterford, NY; a brother, Lawrence (Gerry) Gosselin of Venice, FL; four grandchildren, Stephen and Emily Avondolio of Burnt Hills and Meghan and Lauren Alexander of Rotterdam; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will also be missed by her beloved cat, Bella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 7 North Street, Broadalbin, with the Rev. Thomas Morrette officiating. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin. Interment will be in the Irasburg Cemetery, Vermont.
