Frances Baldwin Smith, 92, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009, in her home. Frances was born February 4, 1917, to Winfred and Nathalie (Caduc) Baldwin. She graduated from Drury University with a Bachelors Degree and was a member of the PI BETA PHI sorority. Frances was a longtime active member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church and was also a member of the Binnie Clements Guild. The family business, Rogers and Baldwin Hardware Store, was a downtown Springfield landmark for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frederick William Smith; daughter Nathalie Anne White; and two sisters, Pauline Baldwin and Elizabeth McBride. Frances is survived by her son-in-law, Thomas White and his wife, Kathryn; three grandchildren, Allison White, Anne Peacock and her husband, Stephen, and Thomas White and his wife, Cynthia; four great-grandchildren, Victoria Peacock, Andrew Peacock, Nathalie White and Margaret White. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Greg Seckman officiating. No formal visitation is planned, however friends may call Tuesday March 3, 2009 after 4 p.m. in the funeral home.
