Floyd Smith died Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at home after a dignified and courageous battle with cancer.Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 30, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.Visitation will be held Friday, September 29, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.Born in Winthrop, Maine, he was the son of Charles Floyd Smith and Bertha May Flynt. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country as an officer aboard the U.S.S. Deuel in the South Pacific fleet. He also served his country during the Korean War in Washington, DC. He completed his education at Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and retired from General Electric Company after a career of 35 years.He was an active member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church for 35 years. He happily gave of his time and talents to the church as treasurer and Sunday school teacher.Surviving are his wife, Marywhite J. Smith; his six children, Olympia Smith Tebalt, Charles K. Smith, Floyd F. Smith, Jr., Robert B. Smith, R. Louis Smith, Leigh C. Smith; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many others who love him.Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to: Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 717 Buncombe Street, Greenville, SC 29601.Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville, SC.
