ARMSTRONG, Evelyn May(nee Morgan) Died peacefully on January 8, 2015, at the age of 87, young in every way but for the cancer that she fought for almost three years. Evelyn was born and raised in Vancouver's East End and educated through Grade 13 at Vancouver Normal School before starting a long teaching career at age 18 in a one-room schoolhouse near Grand Forks, BC. There, she met and married Kenneth Armstrong (1923 - 1988), and the two embarked on teaching assignments in Dawson Creek, Kitimat and North Vancouver. She was the loving mother of Kristl, Daniel (Judith) and Angus (Francine); the proud grandmother of Sylvie, Jason, Keith and Malcolm; is survived by siblings Dorothy Miller, James Morgan, Walter Morgan and Harry Morgan and predeceased by sister Norma Barnes. Evelyn is also the dear aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. Loved by all who knew her for her kindness and her indomitable spirit, Evelyn touched the lives of hundreds of children, most recently at MacDonald and Charles Dickens Schools. In retirement she pursued her passions for gardening, birding, quilting and enjoying her family and her many dear friends around False Creek. In lieu of flowers and to honour Evelyn's boundless love for children and animals, gifts in her memory may be made to The Vancouver Sun Children's Fund, Suite 1, 200 Granville Street, Vancouver, BC V6C 3N3, or the BC SPCA(http://www.spca.bc.ca)
