Ethel Boyce Johnson, 82, wife of James William Johnson, of 206 Portsmouth Drive, died Jan. 18, 2004.Born in Gorham, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Clarence C. and Florence VanHuben Boyce.Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Houghton College in New York and received a Master's degree from Furman University. She was an educator and choral director before her retirement in 1990, having taught at Berea High School for twenty years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenville.Surviving in addition to her husband are her son and daughter-in-law, Janz Lester and Sandra Johnson, of Fayetteville, N.C.; two granddaughters, Tracy and Natalie; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida and Robert Schiek, of Penn Yan, N.Y., and Gladys and Hap Ferguson, of Canandaigua, N.Y.Burial will be private in Woodlawn Memorial Park, with a memorial service Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Rogers and the Rev. Dr. Donna Forrester officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Narthex of the Church.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Global Missions, c/o First Baptist Church, 847 Cleveland St., Greenville, SC 29601, and Houghton College, One Willard Ave., Houghton, NY 14744.The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.
