Funeral for Esther Ruth Smith, 79, of Hartselle will be Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church in Hartselle with Rev. Charles Sparks officiating and Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, in Stephens Memorial Gardens in Toccoa, Ga., with Whitlock Mortuary directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Hillsdale County, Mich., to Garlyn Olin Firestone and Lura Mabel Seiple Firestone. She was retired as a registered nurse. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hartselle where she was also a member of the Bible Baptist Ladies Sunday school class and the Golden Redeemers. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Charley Smith; four brothers, Floyd Firestone, Paul Firestone, Warren Firestone and Lloyd Firestone; and one sister, Opal Maugherman.Survivors include one son, Dennis James Smith and wife, Ellen Miller, of Mount Airy, Ga.; three daughters, Susan Gale Grow and husband, Jim, of Leander, Texas, Darleen Haddock of Hartselle, and Sharlene Whitworth and husband, Kenneth, of Eastanollee, Ga.; two sisters, Leora Weber of Waynesboro, Pa., and Grace Fansler of Fremont, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Dennis Smith Jr. of Silver Creek, Ga., Holly Kelly of Eastanollee, Ga., Kelly Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Kris Hallford of Rota, Spain, Deana Haddock of Hartselle, Lisa Fricks and Angela Thurman of Toccoa, Ga., Angie Shirley of Ormond Beach, Fla., Jamey Young of Eastanollee, Ga., Ambra Cain of Toccoa, Ga., and Ashley Whitworth of Demorest, Ga.; and nine great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Christian Smith of Silver Creek, Ga., Patrick Kelly of Eastanollee, Ga., Ezra and Larissa Hallford of Rota, Spain, Lacey, Lee and Jeffrey Fricks of Eastanollee, Ga., and Tyler Shirley of Ormond Beach, Fla. Pallbearers will be Lewis Allison, Wayne Stewart, Carl Speake, Ed Allen, Scottie Lovelady, Sonny Simmons and Bobby Dotson.
