Obituary of Emily-R. Jordan


Mrs. Emily R. Jordan, age 81, of 2 Sutton Drive, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Summit Place in Simpsonville, S.C., after a lengthy illness. Born in Anderson, S.C., July 29, 1920, Mrs. Jordan was the daughter of the late J.D. Craft Sr. and thelate Mattie Hubbard Craft. She was a retired sales manager and buyer for Bailes Department Store in Anderson. She was a member of Orrville Baptist Church in Anderson for over 50 years, and also attended Lee Road Baptist Church in Taylors. Before her illness, she was very active at Orrville Baptist Church, a church she dearly loved, and served in several capacities, including WMU president. She was a very special wife, mother and grandmother, and her love for her family was paramount. She fought a valiant battle against Parkinson's disease for a number of years. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, J. Calvin Jordan; daughters, Joyce Keel and her husband Ron, and Elizabeth West and her husband John; grandsons, David Keel and his wife Tissa, and their children, Dalton, Katelin and Ronnie; Chris Keel and his wife Tami, and their children, Cameron, Nicholas and Kelsie; and a stepgranddaughter, Kim Russell, of Charlotte, N.C. She is survived by one sister, Vera Terry, of Anderson, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Austin Craft, Amion Craft, Tom Craft and J.D. Craft, Jr.; and two sisters, Lucille Martin and Willie Bell Sanders. Special caregivers in her last years were Phyllis Jones and Jenny Flaherty. The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Summit Place and Lutheran Hospice for their support and loving care in her last days. Visitation will be held today, June 11, 2002, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home, and the body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Orrville Baptist Church, with Dr. Wendell Bannister and the Reverend Ralph Hefner officiating. Interment will follow at Old Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson. Pallbearers will be nephews, David Terry, Gary Craft and Dean Craft. The family will be at their respective homes.
