Obituary of Edith Harrington


Edith Renshaw Harrington, 91, passed away after a long illness, on April 5th, 2012 at Carlton-Willard Nursing home in Bedford, Massachusetts. Born Edith Renshaw Painter in Muncy, Pennsylvania on March 20, 1921, she was the daughter of the late George Grantham and Edith Dorothy (DeWitt) Painter. Edith married Edward Neal Harrington in 1948, who predeceased her in 1992. They resided in Concord, Mass. where they raised a family for 35 years until moving nearby to Lexington. Edith attended Bucknell College and finished her education, after many years as a homemaker, at Northeastern with a degree in Library Science. Most of her professional life was spent working at Bentley College in Waltham, Ma. Edith was an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader and well traveled. She was graced with a sweet temperament, a wry wit and had mastered the art of listening. She had many friends. She is survived by her 3 children: Neal Harrington and his partner Sarah of Warren, Vt., Jane Harrington and her husband Robert Bedell of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., and Beth Harrington of Minneapolis, Mn. as well as two grandsons; Sam Lawrence and Nico Dewitt Harrington. She is predeceased by her sister Dorothy Allen and brother George Painter. A memorial service is to be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Muncy Pa. historical Society or the Lexington Ma. Historical Society.
