Dorothy Flanagan, 88, of Tuscumbia, Ala., passed away Dec. 12, 2008. A native of Lee County, Miss., Mrs. Flanagan moved to Colbert Heights in 1959 where she and her husband, Bernis, operated Flanagan's Grocery. Upon her retirement she became "Nanny" to many as she shared her love for cooking at the Colbert Heights Baptist Daycare for 14 years. Mrs. Flanagan was a member of Colbert Heights Baptist Church.She is survived by her sons, Eddie Flanagan (wife, Judy), Biloxi, Miss., Bob Flanagan (wife, Pennie), Tuscumbia, Ala.; granddaughter Carri Ann Flanagan, Birmingham, Ala.; special friends, Donald and Carol Hammond, Tuscumbia, Ala.She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernis A. Flanagan, and son, Tommy Flanagan.Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 14, at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral will be held in the chapel at 11 a.m. today, with Seth Hood officiating.The family would like to thank everyone who has expressed kindness to Nanny, with a special thanks to the staff and kids of Colbert Heights Baptist Daycare, Dr. Ashmore and staff, nurses and staff at Helen Keller Hospital and Sunbridge of the Shoals. To all her loving friends and staff at Park Place, a special thank you for filling her final years with such joy.
